Transparent Pie

Recipe from my Mother.  This pie has a custard-like consistency and is very good! 

3 slightly beaten eggs (save 2 whites)

1 cup sugar

1-1/4 cups cream

1 teaspoon flour

1/3 cup butter

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 un-baked pie crust

 

Melt butter. Mix flour and sugar together and add gradually to melted butter. Add eggs, one at a time. Add cream and vanilla. Bake in un-baked shell 350°F 45 minutes. Beat egg whites, gradually adding 3 tablespoons sugar, until form stiff peaks.  Spread on top of pie. Bake in oven until lightly browned.
